Privacy Policy
The Foundation owns and
maintains a comprehensive database of information on University of Hawai‘i
System alumni and donors in accordance with the general needs and expectations
of the Foundation and the University of Hawai‘i
System.
The Foundation occasionally receives
personal information through various forms throughout its web site, such as for
event registrations, membership applications, award nominations, volunteer
opportunities, and updates to the Alumni Directory.
The type of information
collected can include, but is not limited to, name, address, phone number(s),
e-mail address(es), graduation year and college/school/department.
Information received and on
file with the Foundation is safeguarded in a number of ways.
Use of Cookies
To enhance and personalize
your experience, some of the Foundation’s web pages use “cookies.” Cookies are text files that your Web browser
places on your computer’s hard drive to store your preferences.

Information
Alumni Information
General
- The Foundation does not distribute any alumni
contact information to individuals or entities not affiliated with the University of Hawai‘i System, except in very limited
circumstances. Contact information
is primarily restricted to name, address, and phone number.
- The Foundation will only share contact
information with individuals or entities that are not part of the university
for the explicit and limited purposes of facilitating the Foundation’s
mission. All Foundation partners
who receive contact information must have an appropriate privacy policy in
place. Furthermore, Foundation
partners must agree to sign a Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure Agreement to
which they agree to neither repurpose nor sell the personal donor
information. Finally, Foundation
partners must agree to destroy all copies of contact information after the
partner’s contract with the Foundation has expired or terminated.
- The Foundation may release information to a
third party if authorized or required by law, if it is clearly stated on a
Foundation web site that certain information will be shared or if the user
expressly consents to the release of information.
Donor Information
General
- The Foundation does not distribute any donor
contact information to individuals or entities not affiliated with the University of Hawai‘i System, except in very limited
circumstances. Contact information
is primarily restricted to name, address, and phone number.
- Unless otherwise stipulated by the donor, the
Foundation provides the university with donor contact information and gift
information.
- The Foundation will only share contact
information with individuals or entities that are not part of the university
for the explicit and limited purposes of facilitating a Foundation
initiative. All Foundation partners
who receive contact information must have an appropriate privacy policy in
place. Furthermore, Foundation
partners must agree to sign a Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure Agreement to
which they agree to neither repurpose nor sell the personal donor
information. Finally, Foundation
partners must agree to destroy all copies of contact information after the
partner’s contract with the Foundation has expired or terminated.
- The Foundation may release information to a

Information
Collected
- The Foundation tracks web usage and
non-personally identifiable information to evaluate how well the web site
is reaching visitors.
- Information collected through forms for specific
uses (e.g., award nominations) is used for those express purposes and in
the promotion of those activities, events or programs.
- Information collected on registration forms is
used to allow entry to events or access to restricted areas of the
Foundation web site, e.g., the Alumni Directory.
- Information collected through “Make a Gift
Online” is used for those express purposes of processing and acknowledging
your gift and updating the Foundation’s records.
E-mail
- E-mail addresses used in the community, as a
matter of policy, are not revealed by the Foundation — by default, messages
are sent via blind e-mail, leaving the option to reveal an e-mail address
up to each individual recipient.
- E-mail addresses, as a matter of policy, are not
revealed by the Foundation outside of the University System.
- E-mail addresses may be used for sending out
information about Foundation or university events via e-mail. The Foundation regards bulk e-mail as an
efficient and cost-effective channel of communication with its
constituents. The Foundation seeks
to minimize the amount of e-mail it sends to alumni and only Foundation-approved
e-mails will be sent out in bulk.
Credit
Card Information
- The Foundation’s online forms for event registrations,
membership, and donations collect credit card information for
payment. Your credit card
transaction will be processed in a secure manner and your credit card
information will not be shared with third parties that are not connected
with the university.
Security
Our sites use industry
standard security. When you make a
donation or otherwise transact with these sites, a “secure connection” is
established using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. SSL is a security protocol for commercial
transactions on the Internet. While
there is no such thing as “perfect security” on the Internet, the Foundation
will take all commercially reasonable steps in order to insure the safety of
your personal information.
Opt-Out
The Foundation provides you
the opportunity to opt out of receiving communications from us and our
partners.
To remove yourself from
future communications, you can select one of the following options.
