On June 9th, the UH Mānoa College of Education (COE) in collaboration with the UH Foundation,
featured a planned giving presentation entitled Living & Giving with Vision & Values: Creating a
Legacy with Charitable Gift Planning. COE faculty, friends and staff learned about opportunities
to benefit their own financial future and support the aspirations of the College at the same time.
Michael Coppes, attorney and Associate Director of Estate and Gift Planning at the UH Foundation,
gave an insightful presentation that challenged and encouraged the audience to consider their own
personal values and vision for life and legacy through an estate and gift plan that reflects their
goals, those of the University of Hawaiʻi
and the College of Education.
The event, held at the Harold L. Lyon Arboretum, also featured a motivating update by Dean Christine
Sorenson on the College of Education's growth and priorities. Those priorities include endowed
support for partnerships between the College of Education and K-12 schools that will improve teacher
preparation and professional development and enhance student achievement; and renovation and expansion
of facilities to provide the more than 1500 students and 300 faculty and staff a functional space for
a variety of educational and community needs. (From Dean's Priorities, UH Mānoa College of Education)
The audience enjoyed a special Arboretum-welcome by its director Christopher Dunn who spoke about the
Arboretum's educational programs and positive impact on the State. After the presentations, the audience
participated in a nature walk, and were delighted with the vibrancy of the flora and foliage.
