Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving
General Description
The Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving oversees the Call Center Coordinator, manages e-mail solicitations/communications, manages the matching-gift program, co-manages the direct-mail program, and is a contributing team member of the overall Annual Giving program. The success of the Annual Giving Program is fundamental to building and expanding the UH Foundation's donor base, and its outreach to alumni and friends of the University.
The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Director of Annual Giving.
Essential Functions
- Works with the Director of Annual Giving to implement develop a comprehensive annual giving program for each unit (including the Calling Center, direct mail, on-line giving and corporate matching gifts).
- Works directly with Director to implement follow through of direct mail and calling calendar.
- Oversees the Call Center Coordinator, ensuring the successful management of the operations of the Calling Center
- Responsible for managing e-mail and on-line presence for Annual Giving to: maximize on-line giving gift income; oversee e-solicitations; oversee the Annual Giving web pages; and proactively oversee any other Annual Giving e-mail or on-line communications.
- Responsible for managing Annual Giving’s matching-gift program to: maximize matching gift income; oversee promotion of matching gifts in all aspects of Annual Giving; creatively seek out new sources of matching gift income; and maintain matching gift statistics and reports.
- With the Director, manages the direct-mail program to: maximize direct-mail gift income; coordinate message of appeals with unit DO's or unit heads; draft direct-mail appeals and finalize appeals with unit DO's or unit heads; coordinate appeal production-process either in-house or with mail-house and coordinate design and printing of Annual Giving stationary.
- Oversee inventory of direct mail stock
- Works directly with Director to implement follow through of direct mail calendar
- Works directly with direct mail vendors to determine innovative and cost-effective fundraising strategies.
- Implements bulk mail jobs and tracking.
- Responsible for being a strong partner in managing Annual Giving program in support of achieving overall Annual Giving goals and to manage the Annual Giving office and programs in the absence of the Director.
- Develops and recommends annual plans, timelines, new projects and strategies to increase Annual Giving results.
- Assistant/Associate Director will also assist director in reviewing and analyzing data and benchmarking program progress.
- Directly responsible for 2 to 3 alumni fundraising projects with a special interest in improvement and retention and acquisition of alumni participation.
- Responsible for management of the Annual Giving Department in the Director's absence.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Baccalaureate degree required.
- Minimum of four years development experience, preferably in an education setting.
- Proven ability to supervise, motivate and mentor staff.
- Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently and under deadline pressures.
- Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate University and unit priorities into solicitations.
- Ability to lead and exercise sound judgment; have a strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
- Knowledgeable about printing and mailing processes, design, marketing; as well as on-line and e-mail fundraising strategies.
- Must have extraordinary interpersonal skills to work successfully with donors and volunteers, University faculty, staff, students, administrators and the general public.
- Must be computer/technology proficient, especially in use of database and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Some heavy lifting may be required.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Working Conditions
Based at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, the position
might require some travel.
