The University of Hawaiʻi Foundation, a nonprofit organization, raises private funds to support all ten campuses of the UH system. Its mission is to transform and create a better future for Hawaiʻi through alumni and community philanthropic support for public higher education, to be a trusted manager of private investments, and to build and sustain the university’s relationships with donors, alumni, the community, and institutional and university partners.
The Foundation raises gifts for specific university priorities and provides central services to raise funds, manage assets, and administer gift accounts for the benefit of the university. To accomplish these activities, we provide resources and specialists in major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, annual giving, planned giving, and donor relations, and solicit contributions to benefit all units and campuses of the UH System. We also manage a student-staffed call center that reaches out to alumni, parents and friends providing news about UH and raising annual gifts.
Donors to UH decide how their gifts are to be designated, and UH Foundation ensures that donor’s wishes are realized. UHF ensures donor designations are respected, down to the fine details, by developing individualized Gift Agreements where appropriate, that clearly articulate each donor’s gift specifications. In fact, nearly 99 percent of gifts are donor-directed. In this regard, we are closely partnered with UH and are deeply committed to assisting the university in accomplishing its strategic objectives.
Currently, the Foundation manages endowments with a total market value of more than $175 million, provides accounting services for more than 3,900 accounts, and on a monthly basis coordinates relationships with more than 5,000 potential donors and responds to more than 1,600 account service requests. Of the 3,900 accounts we administer, more than 1,700 are student aid accounts for the benefit of UH students. The Office of Alumni Relations at the UH Foundation develops alumni programming for the UH System; advances the interests of the institution by connecting alumni and friends with the university; builds stakeholder relationships in the community; and inspires pride, affinity and support through mutually beneficial and lifelong relationships.
