The Foundation’s Office of Estate and Gift Planning works with prospects and donors on the opportunities that are available to support the university through deferred giving, and helps them connect with the programs of interest to them.
Over the years, more than $40 million has come to the Foundation through bequests and other legacy gifts. Deferred gifts such as these help support the research and scholarship of our faculty, scholarships and special programs for our students, and excellence in public higher education for all of Hawaiʻi. Deferred gifts are vitally important to secure the future of Hawaiʻi’s only research university, and of the community college system that provides broad access to public higher education in Hawaiʻi.
The Office of Estate and Gift Planning can further assist prospective donors by providing lists of qualified professionals — attorneys, CPAs, accountants, financial planners, investment managers, and real property appraisers — who can assist them in planning their gift to the university.
Upon request, the Foundation can also serve as trustee for charitable remainder trusts, with a corporate fiduciary as its administrative and investment agent. The Foundation can also provide the appropriate language for bequests for the benefit of an area or program of the university.
