Kauaʻi STUDENTS LIVING THE LEGACY

"Even prior to the formation of the trust, the Vidinha’s were education advocates and provided many college scholarships for Kauaʻi students. I’m sure that as a teacher, Mrs. Vidinha envisioned the positive influence a college education would make in the lives of the students she would see each day.

The creation of the Vidinha Charitable Trust insured that the Vidinha’s vision would enable the dreams of students all over Kauaʻi. Antone and Edene’s gift to Kauaʻi has bettered the lives of many, and will continue to do so for generations to come. "

For over 19 years, the Antone and Edene Vidinha Charitable Trust, established to benefit the people of Kauaʻi, has been actively supporting students with an annual scholarship to Kauaʻi Community College.

Over the years, their generosity has totaled over $900,000 and provides financial assistance to 80-90 students attending Kauaʻi Community College each year.

The Antone and Edene Vidinha Charitable Trust was established by Antone "Kona" Vidinha, Jr. and his wife Edene with the Bank of Hawaiʻi serving as Trustee of the trust. The Vidinha’s were both strong, civic-minded members of the Kauaʻi community. Antone was the sheriff for the Koloa District and later became Captain of Police. He also served as Kauaʻi’s mayor from 1967 to 1972. Edene taught at Koloa School for 37 years.

The Vidinha’s generosity has filtered through the community with their charitable giving. One of their favorites was the program offering educational scholarships to colleges and universities in the State of Hawaiʻi for deserving students from the Island of Kauaʻi.
