"These scholarships support the College’s interest in developing a larger technology-based workforce in Hawaiʻi. Additionally, their support of the FIRST program will help students remain in Hawaiʻi."
BAE Systems, Hawaiʻi’s largest defense contractor, recently presented a check for $107,000 for six scholarships at the College of Engineering. As a major supporter of Governor Lingle’s STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs, BAE Systems is strongly supporting the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics program in Hawaiʻi.
Four of the scholarships are for students with FIRST robotics program experience. The remaining two are for returning kamaʻaina, to contribute to the growth of intellectual infrastructure and the economy.
"Hawaiʻi is strategically located in the Pacific Rim and will play a key role in our future business growth. We are pleased to have this relationship with the University of Hawaiʻi, which continues to play an important role in Hawaiʻi’s development of building new capability for Hawaiʻi’s future."Galen Ho, former BAE Systems Senior Vice PresidentFor more information on this gift, please see the Press Release.
