McInerny Foundation Partners with the UH Foundation to Increase Alumni Giving
More than $426,000 Raised from Alumni in Support of Various UH Programs
(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) - The McInerny Foundation has partnered with the University of Hawai
ʻi
Foundation in a matching grant program to encourage giving to the University of Hawai
ʻi by its alumni. The McInerny Foundation
matched funds, up to $50,000, given by first-time alumni donors and lapsed alumni, those who have made a gift to UH in the past,
but not in the last five years. The four-month campaign raised $426,118, including the $50,000 McInerny matching funds.
We are grateful to the McInerny Foundation for their generosity and for recognizing the valuable role that alumni
play in our overall mission to transform and create a better future for Hawai
ʻi through private philanthropic support, said UHF
President Donna Vuchinich. The response from our alumni has been tremendous with gifts made by 4,200 lapsed donors this year in
support of a wide variety of UH programs. Through this program, we’ve been able to reconnect with many, many of our alumni.
The McInerny Match Program encourages alumni giving by matching gifts up to $100 from alumni who have never
given to the university. The program also supports renewed giving from alumni who have supported UH in the past, but not within the
past five years. Alumni choose which campus and/or program they want to fund with matching gifts made to that same campus and/or
program.
This year, the McInerny Match benefited from enhanced outreach efforts by the UH Foundation’s Office of Alumni
Relations (UHFAR). We’re pleased to partner with the McInerny Foundation and to see the enthusiastic response from our alumni,
commented Associate VP for Alumni Relations Kevin Takamori. Over the past year, we significantly enhanced our communication with
alumni via the launch of our new online community, an online alumni directory and an e-newsletter, greatly expanding the promotional
reach for the McInerny Match,
The UH Foundation’s McInerny Match outreach included direct-mail and calling campaigns, and the addition of online
giving pages directed to the match account.
