(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) -
The University of Hawai
ʻi Foundation has appointed Lani Starkey as its
associate director of gift planning. An attorney and CPA, Starkey most recently served for six years as staff
attorney/VP at Crescendo Interactive, Inc., a gift planning solutions provider in California. His responsibilities
included conducting tax seminars and conferences; consulting with non-profits and professional advisors
nationwide on income, gift and estate tax planning, and other
planned giving-related issues; publishing national tax newsletter and articles; and reviewing trusts,
wills, and contracts.
We are pleased to welcome Lani to the UH Foundation, said UHF President Donna Vuchinich. His broad range and
depth of experience in estate tax planning and other areas of planned giving will be of great service
to our donors and their advisors in making arrangements best-suited to meet their needs.
A member of the State Bar of California, Starkey’s legal experience includes private and public sector positions.
After clerking for a large Texas gas corporation, he served as a judicial extern for the United States
Court of Appeals for the
Ninth Circuit and for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Starkey received his LLM in tax from the University of Florida College of Law. He earned a JD cum laude from
Pepperdine University School of Law and a BBA in accounting from Southwest Texas State University.
He is also a member of the Texas
Society of CPAs.
Starkey joins the Foundation’s Director of Gift Planning Susan Lampe, last year’s Association of Fundraising
Professionals - Aloha Chapter’s Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year award recipient, in
serving the organization’s donors. The UH Foundation’s Office of Gift Planning works with prospects
and donors on the opportunities that are available to
support the University of Hawai
ʻi through deferred giving, and helps them connect with the programs
of interest to them. Starkey and
Lampe can be reached at (808) 956-8034 or by e-mailing
giftplanning@uhf.hawaii.edu.
