Kanazawa Institute of Technology Donates One Million Yen to UH Mānoa Library Flood Relief Fund at UH Foundation
(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) -
Members of the visiting delegation from the Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT) in
Japan recently presented a gift of one million yen (approximately US$10,000) in support of
flood relief efforts for Hamilton Library. KIT and UH Mānoa have benefited from a 22-year
academic partnership which involves the College of Engineering, the UH Library and Outreach
College. The donation was made in-person by Dr. Kakugyo S. Chiku, director of the KIT Library Center,
and Mr. Koshiro Moroya, assistant director of KIT Library Center, to Interim President David McClain,
and other UH officials.
Since 1982, KIT has sent 20-25 of its students from Japan every summer for
intensive English language training at UH Mānoa's Outreach College. Throughout the years, the
partnership has also included academic exchanges with the College of Engineering and an exchange of
materials between the UH Library and the KIT Library Center.
