2005 Officers Appointed for UH Foundation's Board of Trustees

(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) - The University of Hawaiʻi Foundation’s Board of Trustees elected its fiscal year 2005 officers as follows: Chairman - Howard H. Karr, Vice Chairs - Bert A. Kobayashi and Faye W. Kurren, Treasurer - Allan R. Landon, and Secretary - James C. Wo

Retired from First Hawaiʻian Bank as Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer, Karr is a UH Mānoa alumnus, graduating with a BBA in accounting in 1966. Karr serves on a number of boards, including HMSA, the Japan-America Society of Hawaiʻi, Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, Hawaiʻi Special Olympics, Aloha United Way, and Ahahui Koa Anuenue.

Bert Kobayashi, Chairman of the Kobayashi Group, is in his 25th year as a developer. He attended Kapi’olani Community College and serves on numerous nonprofit boards, including Mid-Pacific Institute’s board since 1992.

Faye Kurren is President of Hawaiʻi Dental Services. Kurren has a law degree from UH, an MA in sociology from the University of Chicago, and a BA in sociology from Stanford University. She has also served on the boards of The Nature Conservancy of Hawaiʻi, American Red Cross Hawaiʻi Chapter, Waikiki Aquarium, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaiʻi, and Aloha United Way.

Allan Landon serves as Chairman and CEO of Bank of Hawaiʻi. He earned his BA in accounting from Iowa State University and further training in executive programs at Duke and Northwestern universities. He serves on the boards of the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities and HMSA.

James Wo serves as Chairman of Bojim Investments. His other community involvement includes directorships for the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, First Hawaiʻian Bank, and the Arcadia Foundation.
