UH Foundation Hires Lori Abe as Associate VP of Marketing and Communications

(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) - The University of Hawaiʻi Foundation has hired Lori Abe as associate vice president of marketing and communications.

Abe will be responsible for marketing, public relations, and strategic communications for the Foundation. Her responsibilities include helping to market the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation, including its alumni relations division. Abe will also be responsible for providing overall strategic communications direction and planning to the Foundation.

"We are delighted to have someone of Lori's caliber and expertise — and who is an alumna of UH — join our team," said UH Foundation President Betsy Sloane. "Lori brings a 15-year track record of accomplishments in public relations, marketing and targeted communications to a wide range of audiences, and is well-qualified to help us tell the UH Foundation story." she added.

"There are so many exciting developments taking place at the UH Foundation and we need to let more people know about these developments. More importantly, we need to let them know how they can get involved in supporting the University of Hawaiʻi," said Abe. "I look forward to helping the Foundation market its many dynamic programs, including our alumni relations division, which provides an excellent way for UH graduates to re-connect with the university, and show their pride and support," she added.

Abe was previously public relations director for Aquent, a Boston-headquartered IT and Creative staffing and consulting company. She was also a sales training manager for Tupperware U.S. in Florida from 1997 to 2000, and public relations manager for Tupperware Worldwide, also in Florida, from 1996 to 1997.

She was a vice president at McNeil Wilson Communications from 1994 to 1996, where she directed 11 accounts and oversaw a staff of six professionals. She was promoted to the position fromm account supervisor at the public relations agency.

Abe also served as public relations manager at Sun World International in California from 1990 to 1991, and as the public relations manager at Hilton Hotels in Hawaiʻi from 1988 to 1990.

Abe graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi with a bachelor's degree, majoring in journalism and minoring in marketing.
